Amos Tutuola was born in Nigeria in 1920 and only had a elementary school level education. The Palm Wine Drinkard, his first published novel, has come to be regarded as the masterwork of one of Africa's best and most influential writers. Drawing on the Yoruba oral folktale tradition, and embellishing his tale with strong myth-odyssey of a devoted palm-wine drinker through a nightmare of fantastic adventure.
